Studio/News Set
To complete the picture for you regarding our analogue to digital conversion, I need to mention the changes which will be taking place in the studio regarding our news set. These changes mostly involve upgrades and cosmetic changes as well as lighting changes. Some of what will need to be done will have to take place between our final analogue broadcast and our first high definition broadcast. The plan, as you’re reading this, is to not air any of our newscasts on Saturday, October 11th, and to use that entire day and night to accomplish all that is necessary to air our first high definition newscast the next evening on Sunday, October 12th at 6pm. Fortunately, since it’s something which isn’t seen on the air, we were already able to tear down a wall between the weather office and the studio for the purpose of allowing more space for our new high definition cameras. Below is a “sneak preview” of a few of the more specific changes that we’re considering for the studio and the anchor desk.

This is a current photo of our main studio, anchor desk and set. We plan to replace the abc/rtv6 logo in front of the desk with a monitor and to lengthen the desk on both sides to accomodate the new 16x9 format. Also, in the area between the anchor desk and the large, blue background, we hope to install a decorative railing to add more depth to the set. Finally, the encased monitor next to the anchor desk will either be replaced with a new monitor to give the set a more updated look or will be completely removed from the set.

The weather office should be shown on air so sometimes the weather folks can work from there and not have to go from “The Tracking Center” to the Weather Wall, to the Weather office or back to the desk.
By the way what is the point of the Weather office having doors and walls if there is a large walk way into the main set? (but the doors are very nice)
At one time the weather office was used on the air, but when we got a different news director, he didn’t like the shot of the weather office, and that’s when the “Tracking Center” was born! I totally agree with you. I like seeing the actual weather office on the air. Also, at one time the weather office was enclosed so we thought there would be occasions when the weather people would want to close the doors, but now having the doors aren’t at all necessary.
