Last night, we hung out at the Third Way party, where, among all the pencil-skirted Washingfemmes and black-suited lobbyists, we ran into a familiar Hoosier Republican.

Specifically, former Fort Wayne Mayor Paul Helmke, a gun control advocate who heads up the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence in Washington, D.C. He also ran against Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh in 1998.

Helmke said he was enjoying the convention and wouldn’t rule out a future run for office. The question, however, is whether he’d run as a Republican or a Democrat.
