With This Ring: For Better Or Worse Now Includes Time On The Campaign Trail
A few weeks ago, when Indiana was the epicenter of all things presidential, Michelle Obama hit the Hoosier trail to promote her husband’s presidential bid, and Bill Clinton criss-crossed the state stumping for his wife’s campaign.
(For the record, who’d have ever thought the day would come when Indiana Democrats would be able to say to each other, “President Clinton’s stopping by? Well, I guess I’ll go, but I’ve already seen him three times this week”? A few years ago, yours truly was lucky enough to catch Clinton’s speech at Butler University, and it was one of the hottest tickets in town.)
We now know that Winnie Ballard walked into the Mayor’s Office yesterday and high-fived her husband, Greg, upon learning that Indianapolis will host the Super Bowl in 2012.
And if you’re the kind of nerd who pays attention to press releases from the Governor’s Office, you may have noticed that First Lady Cheri Daniels has a few more public events on her calendar these days — presumably because the Guv is trying to rebuild his “regular guy” image with the bevy of Hoosiers who consider him more than a bit out-of-touch.
The question du jour is: Does it matter?
Are we swayed to vote for a candidate because his or her spouse is around? Are there some offices where it matters more?
Your take, please.
