Television relationships

Well, tomorrow Rick Hightower will be my co-anchor.  Dan is off.  He’s going to a bachelor party in Cincinnati.  I’m sure he’ll have a great time.  I’m also sure he won’t provide me with many details about it Monday morning.

Dan is one of the few single people on the morning show, but he is dating someone.  I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting her.  However, I know if she’s dating Dan she must be smart, energetic and fun.  I’m sure she’s also very understanding.  You see, anyone who dates a television anchor, must be very understanding and patient.

When my husband Joe and I started dating, his patience was really tested.  First of all, people would often stare at us with so much intensity, Joe’s first instinct was to check and see if his fly was open.  Of course, they were just looking to see if I was indeed Grace Trahan.  Often times, people would come over and speak to us during dinner.  At first, Joe was kind of surprised by this, but he soon accepted it as “part of the deal.”  After awhile, he said he was actually proud of the fact that people would want to come over and say hi.  I really appreciated his support.  After all, it can’t be easy to try and establish a relationship with someone when strangers are constantly staring or interrupting your date.

I love meeting and talking to people.  I’m very humbled when people come up and say they watch our show.  Let’s face it.  Viewers have lots of choices when it comes to news.  Knowing that people out there trust me enough to give them their news on a daily basis is an honor and it’s one that I don’t take for granted.

I also don’t take my husband for granted.  His support means more to me than all the fan mail at a Hollywood post office.

So, to anyone out there who’s dating (or thinking about dating) someone on television, keep in mind that viewers might come over and say hello.  But in the end, television people can be fun dates and great spouses.  We just need extra closet space and mirror time…. and that goes for the female AND male reporters.

celine.jpgCeline Dion is gracing the cover of Hello Magazine. But the buzz on the internet is many people are confused. The youngster posing with her, is not her daughter… it is her son… six-year-old Renee Charles!

Meanwhile, her new French-language album “D’elles” shot to the top of the Canadian album charts selling 72,000 copies in its first week. That is the biggest debut of the year for the country. It is her tenth number one album.

Google Earth Gets Better

If you have ever checked out Google Earth & Maps, it is pretty fascinating. Now the program just got even better than ever.
A new feature released this week allows visitors to maps.google.com to see panoramic views of streets and buildings. Right now you can see a 360-degree view of cities like San Francisco, Miami, Las Vegas and more. Many people’s faces are even popping up on the satellite maps!
It is so detailed some of the things seen are the face of a woman out for a jog, and a man seen outside of a strip club!

The Age of Wisdom

During the commercial breaks this morning, we were lamenting about some of the young stars in the news these days.  Young ladies like Britney Spears, Lindsey Lohan and Paris Hilton seem to be on the fast track to a real tragedy with their self-destructive behavior.  Dan was saying how disappointing it is that so many young girls look up to Britney and Paris.  He went on to talk about the problems with the youth of today.  Later, Dan had to laugh at himself.  After all, he’s the ripe old age of 28.  At the same time, Dan is mature and intelligent.  You don’t have to be 30 (or older) to make wise decisions.  Tom is about the same age as Dan and I often forget how young he is, too.    He’s also intelligent and grounded and knows what’s really important in life.

The youngest on air person on Good Morning Indiana is Emily.  She’s all of 23.  She is truly blessed to be in this size market at such a tender age.  The news business is in her blood.  Her mom and dad have reporting experience.  As a matter of fact, her father is a former news director.  I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Gimmel and he’s a very nice man!!  If Emily plays her cards right, she’ll be at network well before she gets her first gray hair.

Paul, Julie and I are the older brother and sisters of the group.  We’re always good for a “I remember when” story.  It’s a little strange to find yourself as one of the veterans of the group.  I was in my mid-20’s when I joined the RTV-6 staff.

Tom made my year earlier this week when he said I looked like I was 19 during our race day coverage. (I had on a baseball cap and most of my makeup washed away with the rain.)  Ah, yes.  Tom may be young, but he certainly knows how to charm an old lady.  Now if I could squeeze out 19 more years in the news business, that would put a real wrinkle in local news.
