If any of you had a chance to watch Good Morning America today, perhaps you heard Robin Robert’s announcement about her health. Robin told viewers today that she has breast cancer.
My prayers go out to Robin. I had the pleasure of meeting her more than a year ago here in Indianapolis. She was here for a speaking engagement and I had the honor of introducing her. Let me tell you… she was the most gracious and down-to-earth person you could ever hope to meet. She loved talking about her faith and how it has helped her achieve her success in life. I admire her spirit and her ability to stay focused and grounded.
I think what shocked me so much about today’s announcement is Robin is in such good shape. She’s been an athlete her entire life. When I met her I remember thinking… this lady doesn’t have an ounce of body fat. She’s very active and I have no reason to believe she eats anything other than a healthy diet. Her diagnosis just adds to the mystery of breast cancer.
I hope Robin’s story will encourage other women to do self-exams and get checked out by their doctors. Apparently, Robin did a self-exam after Good Morning America’s tribute show to movie critic, Joel Siegel. He died after a battle with cancer. Robin found the lump herself. She then went to the doctor, who ordered a mammogram and an ultra-sound. The mammogram didn’t discover the cancer, but the ultra-sound did.
So, ladies, may Robin’s story serve as an example of how we all need to take charge of our health. It’s rare, but men can get breast cancer too. We all need to take care of ourselves and watch out for each other. Take care, Robin. A lot of people are praying for you.
I hope all of you had a glorious weekend. My family and I had a great 4 day weekend. My husband and I were off Thursday and Friday. We decided to make it an action-packed, fun weekend for the kids by taking them to an amusement park, a water park and the zoo. We had a great time, but I did learn a few lessons.
The most important lesson I learned is how you can’t take your eyes off your kids… not even for a second. When we only had two kids, it was so much easier. My husband was usually “assigned” to our oldest son and I usually took care of the youngest. Now that we have three children, it’s a bit more difficult. Let’s face it. Whenever the children out-number the parents, it can be intimidating at times. At one point, we were making our way through a small crowd at the park. My husband was holding hands with our oldest and I was holding the baby. My middle child, asserting his independence, decided he didn’t want to hold anyone’s hand. He was walking beside me, when suddenly, I didn’t see him anymore. Panic-striken, I quickly turned around and discovered that he had stopped to stare at a ride that appeared quite intriguing to a three-year-old. I felt both relieved and guilty. I’ve told him numerous times to stay close to Mommy and Daddy, but he’s only three-years-old. I’m the parent and it’s my job to protect him. I’ve reported so many stories about children who are abducted. As I hugged my son, all of those terrible stories about abducted children flashed in my mind. From that moment on, I held my son’s hand so tightly, I nearly cut off his circulation. During dinner, my husband and I discussed a “battle” plan for our next excursion. Even though our son was never lost and we only lost sight of him for a moment, we both know it only takes a moment for something tragic to happen. To all of those parents who have had a child abducted, my heart goes out to you. For those of you who have small children, never forget about their curious little minds and their quick little feet. Our kids are our gifts from God and sadly, we have to remember that there are people out there who could easily steal our gifts away from us. During our next vacation, my husband and I have a plan to keep the kids in sight.
I also learned another lesson during my time off. Kids do eventually run out of steam… thank goodness! During our drive home, all of our little ones nodded off. It would have been a great time for my husband and I to catch up on some adult conversation. There was just one problem. I fell asleep, too. Sorry, dear.
They say everyone has a twin and perhaps the viewers have discovered ours. A viewer sent our Stacia Matthews an email, asking if Dan is the same young man who starred on Full House. After doing some research, we discovered the viewer was talking about Miko Hughes, who played one of the girl’s boyfriends. Well, Dan didn’t star on Full House, but I’m sure he’s the star at his mom’s house. As you might imagine, for those of us who are anchors, our parents are usually our biggest fans.
Not too long ago, a viewer told me he thinks Paul looks a lot like “Mr. Bean.” What do you think? Paul’s not too crazy about the comparison. No comment yet from Mr. Bean to see how he feels about it.
Tom says when he was younger, people used to tell him he looked like Zack from Saved By the Bell. For those of you who used to watch NYPD Blue, you know the actor’s name is Mark-Paul Gosselaar and he starred on Blue before it went off the air. The great news for Tom is he’s no longer blue over his work schedule. This is his last week to work a split shift. He’s taking some time off next week. When he returns in August, he’ll be working 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. Good for you, Tom!
As for me, I’ve never been compared to a famous actress. If I had my choice, however, I’d love to have Halle Berry’s face… Janet Jackson’s abs… and Oprah’s hair and golden heart. (I wouldn’t mind having Oprah’s gold card, either).
Oh, well. God made us the way that we are for a reason. Truth be told, it’d probably be a better world if we focused more on what’s on the inside than what’s on the outside of a person. It’s still kind of fun, though, to think we have a “twin” somewhere on the planet.
YouTube has videos of everything from bad karaoke to kids doing skateboard stunts. Now, you can also see criminals on YouTube.com.
The Knox County Tennessee Sheriff’s Office is posting security camera video of criminals in action. One video of a purse-snatcher drew more than 1,800 hits on the Web site.
Deputies believe the YouTube video helped generate a tip that led to the arrest of a suspect. Officials say YouTube is effective, and doesn’t bog down the county’s Web servers.
Who in America could forget? Last February Britney Spears shaved her head and attacked a vehicle with an umbrella.
That meltdown was right before she went to rehab. Now you can drive yourself crazy- in the car from the attack.
The 2002 Ford Explorer along with the busted green umbrella… are up for grabs on eBay.com. The current bid is thirty thousand dollars.
