What’s old is new again

This morning was like going back in time, wasn’t it?  My good friend and co-worker Ray Cortopassi filled in for Dan this morning.  Ray is now co-anchoring the Noon Show with me, and it was fun to work the early morning shift with him again too.

For those of you who haven’t been in Central Indiana very long, Ray and I anchored the morning show together years ago.  Just to give you an idea how long ago it was… I was single with no kids and Ray and his wife had one child.  Now, I’m married and we both households in which the kids out-number the parents.  For those of you who are counting, Ray and his wife have four children and my husband and I are holding steady at three.

Working with Ray this morning was as easy as it was all those years ago.  I think part of the reason we get along so well is we have so much in common.  We’re both married, Catholic and have a house full of kids.  One of the best lines of the morning was when Paul was reminiscing about the old days… and he said when we all last worked together, Tom was probably up early watching Power Rangers.  Tom took it in stride.  We like to give him a hard time about how young he is, but to be honest, I sometimes forget that he could be my…. well… at the very least, my much younger brother.  Tom is mature and well-grounded for a man his age, so he fits in nicely with those of us who’ve been around awhile.

Speaking of being around, Dan hasn’t been around but he returns Monday.  I hope he’s having a wonderful vacation.  (Dan… if you’re reading this on Friday… stop reading right now and enjoy the rest of your vacation.)

I’d like to thank all of you who take time out of your busy day to read our blog.  Have a wonderful weekend and be sure and tune in to see the entire morning crew back together again on Monday.

Significant others

Happy Thursday, everyone!  We got quite a treat at the end of Good Morning Indiana.  We finally got to see the wives behind the wacky weather/traffic team.

Last weekend, Paul and Tom participated in an event on Conner Prairie in which they dressed up in costumes and acted out a scene.  (They got great reviews, by the way).  At any rate, I made the comment that it was great to see them in their costumes, but I would love to see pictures of their biggest fans.  Well, today, we got to see a picture of Paul, Tom and their wives.  Mrs. P and Mrs. D are very pretty… and very supportive.    You would think it would be a laugh at minute living with these guys.  While I’m not sure about the Davis household, Mrs. P has made the comment that Paul is a lot funnier on television than he is at home.   Then again, who isn’t?  There’s something about the reality of kids, fixing the house, paying the bills, etc. that requires a more serious approach to life.

My husband’s arms and hands were on t.v. recently.  He was holding our daughter when she was tested for lead poisoning.  That’s just fine with my hubby.   He is more than happy to let me be the “face” of the family.  (By the way, we got the results of the lead tests and everything is fine!!!)

I don’t think Mrs. Sanchez has ever been on television.  I think she’s just fine with that, too.  Usually, having one famous face in a family is enough.  Those of us on the air feel so lucky to have significant others who support us and keep us grounded… just in case we start getting, as my parents would warn, “a little too big for our britches.”

Things we do for love

Happy Wednesday, everyone! It was a pretty quiet morning on the Good Morning Indiana set. Rafael and I both got little sleep last night. Rafael was busy helping his wife and kids and didn’t get to bed until around 9:30. My daughter decided that she didn’t want to go bed at her usual time, so I was up with her until about 9:30 or so. Somehow, however, we made it through another show.

One of the most entertaining stories of the morning was the one about the guy who couldn’t get into his girlfriend’s house, so he decided to climb up to the roof and try to get in through the chimney. Unfortunately, he got stuck and had to be cut out of the chimney. The guy then admitted he was drunk and said, quote, “people do stupid things when they’re drunk.”

Even when sober, guys will many times go out on a limb for love. Rafael knew he had found his true love while he was still in college. He gave his girlfriend at the time (now his wife) his fraternity pin, even though it meant he might get thrown into a nearby creek by his frat brothers. Sure enough, his brothers found out and tossed Rafael into the water. Years later, Rafael and his then-girlfriend took the plunge and have been happily married ever since.

I can’t think of anything too unusual that my husband did before we got married. Then again, some might argue that marrying me was a little crazy. I am constantly reminded at how much he must care about his family, though. For example, he’ll actually head outside and clean the deck when the Cubs are on. My husband has been a long-suffering Cubs’ fan for years. So, for him to take care of his “honey-do-list” while his favorite team is playing, proves to me that he knows which team in life matters most.
