Friends

Well, we made it.  Happy Friday everyone!

Once again, we started Good Morning Indiana at 4:30 this morning.  We’re all a little tired, but at least it’s the end of our work week.  One thing that definitely helps you get through a long, tough work day is being with friends.  Paul and I have been friends for a long time, and Dan and Tom have become fast friends, as well.  My friends have definitely been there to help me when I needed some assistance.

About a week and a half ago, my eye doctor and his wife asked me for a favor.  They wanted me to record a special song for their grandson, Charlie.  They re-wrote the song “My Guy” and inserted their grandson’s name.  Singing wasn’t the hard part for me.  Getting the song on a CD was a bit more of a challenge.  (There’s a reason I’m sitting in front of a camera.  No one would dare let me touch anything behind the scenes!)

At any rate, Tom agreed to help me out.  I thought it would only take us about 10 or 15 minutes.  It ended up taking about an hour.  Tom was so patient and kind, and wasn’t satisifed until I was satisfied with the final product.  Now, that’s a real friend.  Thanks, Tom.

Dan is also very helpful.  I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve asked him to switch cut-ins with me, so I can go to the doctor or take care of an issue with the kids.  Without hesitation, Dan is always willing to help.  Thanks to you too, Dan.

As for Paul, he’s helped me so many times, I can’t even count.  I also have to say that Paul and Mrs. P give great gifts!!  My husband and I still use the wedding gift that they gave us… a great crock pot!  Whatever the weather is doing outside, I can whip up a nice warm meal for the family, thanks to the Poteet family.

And so no matter what you go through during the day, it’s nice to know that you have friends to help you along the way.

Helping you Succeed

Succeed Personal Training was founded by two personal trainers that know the formula for success.  Bill and Chris Dean have used their combined 20+ years of experience to create programs that will help people stay motivated and committed on their paths to personal fitness.

You would learn after meeting Bill and Chris that their attention is focused on establishing a trusting relationship with their clients and paying attention to the details that make programs work for an individual’s goals.  Their programs are designed to help create a life-changing experience that will help bring forth opportunities for success.

In addition to personal training, Bill and Chris Dean put their efforts towards promoting fitness and wellness opportunities in the community that will help people become more active.  They have helped establish programs like a physically and mentally beneficial Yoga Therapy class in Zionsville and helped places like the Wayne Township Schools Administration design, build, and staff a fitness facility on-site.  These are only a couple ways the Succeed team has helped our community become aware of and have access to fitness and wellness programs.  They plan to continue collaborating with people interested in starting programs, and I encourage you to check out their website at http://www.succeedpersonaltraining.com/ to see if they could help you!

Before the storm…

Happy Thursday, everyone!  Like many of you, I’m ready for the weekend.

My 4-year-old was very happy yesterday.  His class made it to the zoo.  In addition, my husband and 22-month-old daughter went along to chaperone.  From what I understand, a good time was had by all.

Today is the calm before the storm, so to speak.  While Paul says we probably won’t get a lot of snow this evening into tomorrow morning, we could be dealing with some ice.  Needless to say, I’m ready to turn a cold shoulder to Winter and move on to Spring.  Just this morning, my brakes almost didn’t catch at an intersection.  I hit a little patch of ice and slid a bit into the intersection.  Luckily, no cars were coming.  (A blessing from my Guardian Angel.  Thank you.)  Tomorrow could be a real mess.  Just a little tip from one friend to another.  You might want to get important errands taken care of today, so you don’t have to do a lot of driving tomorrow.

In addition to the weather, we’re watching a political storm.  John McCain is scheduled to be in Indianapolis tomorrow morning.  With the story breaking about his alleged relationship with a lobbyist, the spotlight will definitely be on downtown Indianapolis tomorrow morning.

One of my co-workers told me today that we should all just “take it one day at a time.”  And so, I’m going to take that advice.  Enjoy today… enjoy my friends and my family… and deal with whatever happens tomorrow… tomorrow.

Snowed under

Hello!  This will be short and sweet today.  Thanks to the snow, we’re a little snowed under today.  I have a couple of meetings today, and I’m hoping to drive my son to pre-school.  He and his classmates have a field trip planned to the zoo.  I’m not sure if they’ll still go, but I haven’t heard anything to the contrary yet.  Then again, you don’t want to be up to any monkey business when the roads are slick.  Be careful out there and we’ll chat more tomorrow.

Need a lift?

What do you think about the new look for our blog?  I think it has a classy appearance and is easy to read.  Thanks to Seth, our super blog supervisor of sorts at RTV-6.  Nice work!

We always get excited about new toys at RTV-6.  I remember when we got our new anchor desk.  We were like kids at Christmas.  It kind of gives you a morale booster when you have a new look or new toys to use for your job.

I must tell you, however, that while I like when our set or our blogs get a face-lift, I don’t think I would ever go under the knife.  The entire process scares me.  I’ve seen other women of color who’ve gotten face-lifts and the results were not what they had hoped.  Perhaps there are women of color who have had successful lifts and I say, if you’re happy, good for you.  I just don’t think I could ever do it.  Besides, what’s wrong with a few lines?  Yes… they show age.  But I dare say they also show wisdom and hopefully, peace with one’s self.  In my business, I’d be fooling myself if I didn’t recognize the role of appearance.  It’s refreshing, however, to see more news organizations realizing that a nice appearance doesn’t mean you have to be 20 years old and wear a size 0.  Take Diane Sawyer, for example.  She’s not 20 anymore, but she’s fabulous.  She’s a mature woman who’s appreciated for her talent.  I don’t think I’d be stepping out of line when I say she can probably stay at Good Morning America as long as she wants to.

Even in local markets, I’m noticing more older women who are holding their own at the anchor desk.  I say, you go, girls!  I don’t know how long I’ll be anchoring the news.  I do know, however, that whatever I do… I plan to do it as gracefully and as naturally as possible.
