Labor of Love
Happy Labor Day, everyone! I hope you are enjoying some quality time with friends and relatives.
I didn’t get a chance to blog on Friday. It was one of those really busy days. Thankfully, Rafael was in to help with the anchoring duties. As always, his help was very much appreciated. I also have to say thanks to the Judge… who rules when it comes to barbeque. Once again, Judge’s Barbeque made our A List as the best place to get barbeque in Indianapolis. The owner stopped by to feed us Friday morning. Barbeque may not be the breakfast of champions, but it certainly hit the spot with our early morning crew. And no doubt, Judge is the champion of the barbeque grill.
The reason I was so busy Friday is I was taking care of last minute details for a blood drive we’re having at the station. One of our RTV-6 staff members, Don Foss, is fighting cancer. Todd and Trisha have blogged about Don’s battle and put out a call for prayers a couple of weeks ago. Don’s wonderful wife, Susan, has been keeping us updated on Don’s condition. As I was reading one of her emails last week, I decided it would be nice to have a blood drive in his honor. RTV-6 staff members will donate on Wednesday. While we can’t accomodate all of our viewers, I would like to ask all of you to make a donation as well. Giving blood is giving the gift of life. It’s so easy to do and can help so many people. Paul gives blood every 2 months. Julie has actually given blood during a live shot. I’ve given blood, too. None of us passed out or had any effects from our donation. Most people don’t have any complications. Most people feel absolutely wonderful because they did something totally selfless and helped another human being. And so, if you’d like more information, I’d encourage you to call your local blood center. If you decide to donate on Wednesday, simply let the blood center know you’re giving in honor of Don Foss, a WRTV six employee.
I know… I know. People are busy. But somehow, we always find time to do the things we really want to do. And as I told my co-workers, sometimes bringing comfort to another human being means we have to step out of our comfort zone. So, on this holiday, many of us at the station are focusing on a labor of love for our dear friend and co-worker.
Have a safe Labor Day… and keep those prayers coming for Don and for the people along the Gulf Coast who are dealing with Hurricane Gustav.

Hey Grace, sorry I’m typing in sooo late (I was helping out at the MDA Telethon all day) hope you enjoyed a safe Labor Day!!
That’s really nice about what you are doing for Don. I knoe that Don’s family are asking for prayers at 12:35 each day, so it’s really awesome that you, Trisha and Todd are letting the viewers in on a tough battle. I agree with you about giving blood. When I was finally old enough to start donating blood, I usually donate every year on 9/11, but now that you’ve mentioned it, I will donate blood for Don. Today at the Telethon, I felt wonderful for spending a day that I had orginally planned to be with family by helping local families put an end to Muscular Dystrophy.
I’m also looking forward for tomorrow’s special on the United Way that’ll be on all the channels.
Be blessed.
P.S.- Don’t be upset about that email that lady sent you last thursday. just go ahead and do a jay-z, ‘get that dirt off your shoulder!!!’ lol
