Thanks!
When you work in a business where you’re constantly talking about crime and corruption, it’s easy to get a little cynical. Then something happens that restores your faith in humanity.
Yesterday we had our station blood drive to honor our friend and co-worker, Don Foss. Don is fighting cancer right now. The blood drive only lasted four hours, but we kept the blood center workers busy! Twenty-two people gave and three more people tried to give, but were unable to donate at this time. I think our drive was a wonderful success.
One thing that struck me was how everyone who was donating blood had a smile on his/her face. Staff members were joking, laughing and having a good time. Some of my wonderful co-workers returned to the station to donate, even though they had been up all night producing Good Morning Indiana. (Thanks, Greg) Some of my co-workers had not given blood in years, but decided it was time to do it again to help a friend. (Thanks, Tom) Some of my co-workers even had a root canal planned for later in the day, but didn’t let that sway them from donating blood. (Thanks, Paul) And yes… some of us who had to rush home, pick up the kids, take them to extra-curricular activities, rush home, cook dinner, etc… decided to donate too. (Thanks, Julie)
I didn’t hear one ouch or hear one complaint. Everyone who donated was happy to help. It was wonderful to witness. Just like any other workplace, we have our share of drama. It’s just nice to see that when someone needs our help, we’re able to pull together as a group and show love, compassion and generosity. As I told my co-workers, I feel so lucky to be part of such a giving and caring group of people.
