Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween!  I hope all of you get more treats today than tricks.  Our favorite weather and traffic guys played a bit of a trick on us today.  I really thought they might go with a political theme this Halloween.  Instead Paul decided to be Tom and Tom decided to dress up as Paul.  As they quickly discovered, it’s easier to change your hair from light to dark as opposed to dark to light.  Paul’s hair (and part of his skin) actually had a green hue.  Paul wasn’t too red-faced about what happened.  After all, Halloween is all about fun… not perfection.

Dan and I felt a little left out, so I say next year we go as each other.  Wouldn’t that be fun?  Dan could get a dark wig and a dress.  I would need a short wig and some glasses.  Hey… it could work, right?

I have to give another shout-out to my husband.  He was almost a Halloween baby.  His birthday is tomorrow.  My younger sister is coming to town today.  She’ll babysit the kids tomorrow night, so my husband and I can go out to dinner.  Yeah!  Happy Birthday Joe and thank you Nikki.

My two little Colts players and my daughter the good witch are ready to hit the streets tonight!  It should be a good time.  If you’re heading out tonight, be sure to take it easy and keep your eye out for all of the kids.  We want to make sure all the little ghosts and goblins enjoy plenty of treats.  And we get any extra treat this weekend… an extra hour of sleep!  To me, that’s better than a bag full of chocolates.

Hustle and Bustle

Even though we work in the same building, those of us on the morning crew rarely see our colleagues on the evening shift.  Yesterday was a rare event.  Those of us on Good Morning Indiana stayed a little later and those on the evening shift came in a little earlier.  We all gathered in our second studio to shoot the video for our holiday promotion.  The studio was decorated with Christmas trees, lights, toys and a little snow on the ground.  O-K… it was fake snow.  But it definitely helped give the place that holiday feel.

It was fun to see Todd, Trisha, Dave, Kevin and the rest of the gang.  We all had on our green and red and holiday smiles.  It seemed a little strange to be singing about the Christmas season while asking each other about our kids’ Halloween plans.  It was a smart idea, however, for our promotions department to get this done early.  Today marks the beginning of the all important ratings period for television stations.  (Get ready… all of our favorite shows should have some really good plot lines.)  Also, next week is the election.  These are very busy times for those of us in the t-v business.  It’s nice that we have part of the hustle and bustle of the holiday season all wrapped up.

Oh… and in case you’re wondering… I believe our holiday promo will hit the air the day after Thanksgiving.  Stay tuned… and hopefully we’ll be in tune too.

You know you’re tired when…

I thought I would dedicate this morning’s blog to all of us who know what it’s like to be terribly tired.

You know you’re tired when you put the jug of milk on the coffee table and the remote in the refrigerator.

You know you’re tired when you call your son by his brother’s name, his sister’s name and your spouse’s name, before you finally call him the right name.

You know you’re tired when you look at the teleprompter and instead of seeing words, you see zzzzzzz’s.

You know you’re tired when you call your co-anchor or reporter by the wrong name.

You know you’re tired when you sit down at your computer and you can’t remember your password.

You know you’re tired when you finally log on to your computer and the first thing you do is go to the calendar to find out when you can take a day off.

You know you’re tired when you get to work and realize you’re wearing a brown sock and a blue sock.

You know you’re tired when you get to your job at a television station and realize you forgot to pack your dress pants.

And finally, you know you’re tired when you walk into work and give everyone an enthusiastic hello while wishing them a happy Friday… only to be told it’s Thursday.

Well, today is only Wednesday and I’m already wishing for Friday.  By the way, my co-workers and I are guilty of at least or more of the above mentioned circumstances.  That’s how we know we’re tired.

Gearing up

Happy Tuesday, everyone!  I hope all of you are having a fantastic day.

The countdown is on to Halloween.  Dan and I can hardly wait to see what Paul and Tom have come up with this year.  I wouldn’t be surprised if their costumes have a political theme.  Stay tuned and don’t miss Friday’s show!

My kids are pretty excited about Halloween.  My boys are going to be Colts players.  I bought my daughter a cute little Colts cheerleader outfit, so I was all set to have the perfect little trio.  Well, just like her mom, my daughter has a mind of her own.  She recently came up to me and told me she wanted to be a witch.  I asked her why and she said the witch on Dora was really cool.  So how could I deny my daughter a chance to be really cool?  I rushed around this weekend and thankfully found a size 2 witch costume.  It wasn’t easy, though.  Most places seem to sell out of the best costumes pretty quickly.  At any rate, I got pretty lucky.  On Friday, I’ll be making the rounds in my neighborhood with Peyton Manning, Joseph Addai and Rachel the Good Witch.  As for me, I plan to dress up as a tired but devoted anchor mom.

Married even

As always, working with Rafael is a joy.  It seems like whenever we work together, one of us always manages to embarrass the other.  In some cases, we’re both embarrassed.  Today we reported on the world’s heaviest man.  He got married this weekend.  We wish him and his bride the best.  Rafael was saying how the groom may be inspired by his wife to get healthy again.  Rafael then turned to me and asked if I had married up… or if Joe had married up.  Then Rafael got this worried look on his face.  (That’s what happens when you work with the wife and the husband.)  I simply told Rafael that Joe and I married even.  Paul saved the moment by quickly letting us know that he definitely married up.

When it comes to marriage, let’s face it.  Each spouse brings positives into the marriage.  Every marriage is going to have its ups and downs.  The successful couples are the ones who work out their problems.  I also believe that no matter how hectic life gets, couples should find ways to make their spouse feel special.  And finally, don’t forget to laugh.  My husband and I have been together forever and we can still make each other laugh.

Let’s face it.  My husband has to have a sense of humor.  He’s constantly talked about on television and in a blog and I just can’t stop myself.
