Fun and Fundraising

Happy Monday!  I hope all of you had a wonderful weekend.

Tom and Paul were out raising money for charity again.  Aren’t they fantastic?  This weekend they stomped grapes for the Wheeler Mission downtown.  Paul raised $250 for the homeless shelter and showed off the huge check this morning.  A viewer and facebook friend wanted to know how Paul is going to fit that huge check in the dispenser at the bank.  When it comes to raising lots of money for a good cause, I’d definitely put my money on Paul and Tom.

Dan got lots of rest this weekend and sounds much better today.  His bride-to-be went shopping for wedding gowns!  Needless to say, that’s one part of the wedding planning process that Dan can’t participate in, but he will surely be speechless when he sees his beautiful bride on their wedding day.

I’m happy to report that I got lots of rest this weekend too.  The family and I went out to eat Friday and we called it a night pretty early.  Saturday the boys started their sports activities.  They both had a good time.  My daughter is anxious to start her ballet classes, but the classes don’t get underway until after Labor Day.  Sunday was a nice day.  It definitely had a Fall feel to it, didn’t it?  My favorite moment came when we stopped singing one of the hymns at church and my daughter says in a loud voice, “That was fun! ”  Everyone around us couldn’t help but smile.  I have a feeling God was smiling too.

I hope you enjoy many precious moments this Monday.  Don’t forget to join us again bright and early tomorrow morning.

Rest for the weary

Happy Friday!  I hope all of you have a wonderful weekend.

I think your Good Morning Indiana crew is definitely ready for a few days off.  Dan was ill earlier in the week.  He feels a lot better, but his voice isn’t at 100 % yet.  A weekend of rest will certainly do him some good.

I woke up with a sore throat this morning.  I don’t feel awful, but I do think I need a little rest.  Last night was new parent orientation/back to school night for my kindergarten student.  It was a long night.  I got home around 8:40, which is about 30 minutes or so past my bedtime.  It was worth it, though.  What parent doesn’t make sacrifices for their kids?  I want my son to know how much his education means to me (and how much he means to me) so I went to all of the meetings for new parents.  I’m so impressed with his new school.  At one point another parent looked at me and said, “I wish I could go to school here.  This sounds like so much fun!”  Nothing is more than fun and rewarding than knowing your child is happy and is laying the foundation for success in school.

This morning I learned that Tom and Paul have been very busy the past few weekends.  They’ve made numerous appearances around Central Indiana.  While I know they’ve had a good time, there’s something to be said for taking a little break every now and then.

I hope all of you can enjoy a bit of a break this weekend and get a little rest and relaxation.  Don’t forget to join us again bright and early Monday morning!

Busy Week

Is it Friday yet?

Seems like it’s been a long week- even though it was about a day and a half shorter for myself. The good news is- I’m feeling better, and hopefully “the bug” is squelched- after being spread around the office the past few days. It’s always difficult to know when to go back to work. Are you 100 percent? Are you still contagious? Sometimes it’s hard to know.

So between that and catching up on all kinds of other work- my blog entry is a little late today- my apologies!

It’s going to be a busy news weekend. Networks are planning live coverage of Sen. Ted Kennedy’s funeral. President Obama will deliver the eulogy on Saturday. Whatever your politics, I think this week’s news brings a real sense of history- the final chapter (for now) of the Kennedy legacy in the U.S. Senate. For about the last fifty years or so, someone named Kennedy has been in office in the Senate- and love him or hate him, it’s a name that has made headlines for many, many years.

So whether you’re watching the news this weekend- or resting and recuperating like me, hope you get to spend some time with your loved ones, and make some special family moments of your own.

Don’t worry- Friday’s almost here.

Staying healthy

Happy Wednesday!  I hope all of you are doing well.

Dan is feeling a little better.  As many of you know, Dan was sick yesterday.  Julie did a great job filling in for him and I appreciated her help.  I’m glad Dan is feeling better.  As I have discovered, this early morning shift often makes it difficult to stay healthy and refreshed.

I’m trying to do my best to take a nap in the afternoon and take my vitamins.  My family needs me, so I need to stay strong.  My morning routine is a bit different now.  Dan now covers the 7:22 and 7:56 newsbreaks during Good Morning America.  I’m literally out the door right after Good Morning Indiana.  I hurry home to help my husband with the kids.  I have about 25 minutes to help out as much as I can.  My 5-year-old and I must be out the door no later than 7:40 so I can drop him off at school and get back to the station.  I then anchor the 8:25 newsbreak.  Sometimes I have to chuckle as I’m pulling out of the school parking lot at 8.  I just pray… God… please keep the traffic flowing smoothly and keep me safe so I can be on the set in 25 minutes.  I know things will get a little crazy once winter gets here.  The snow will definitely slow me down.  Then again, if it’s really bad, the kids won’t have school so I won’t have to go home.

I don’t need to run home again, but I do need to get going again.  I have a meeting I need to attend.  I hope all of you have a wonderful Wednesday and stay well!

Looking back at the weekend

Happy Monday!  I hope all of you had a wonderful weekend.

Dan attended a wedding this weekend.  No… not his own.  His step-sister got married in Ohio.  Dan said he had a great time.  It was wonderful to see so many of his relatives.  And while celebrating his step-sister’s marriage, Dan also got a chance to share more details about his big day.

Tom and Paul hit the road and headed to Logansport.  They helped bag groceries as part of a fundraiser for Big Brothers/Big Sisters.  I’m sure they provided some big laughs for everyone who attended.

My family and I had a nice, quiet weekend.  I thought it was a good idea to take it easy since it was the first weekend since everyone headed back to school.  In addition, the boys start extra-curricular activities this Saturday, so I thought everyone would like a quiet weekend before the chaos really starts.  I bought a big dry erase board for our kitchen.  On it, I write the activities for the week.  After I finished our latest installment, my husband made two comments.  First he said… “Wow… we’re late already.”  And finally he declared, “We need a bigger board.”  Either that, or I need to grow an additional set of arms to get everything done.

Even with all the chaos, I feel blessed.  I know these years when the kids are young will go by fast.  That’s why I try to slow down long enough to listen to them… talk to them… hug them… and let them know I love them.

I hope all of you have a wonderful week.  As crazy as life gets, don’t forget to listen to your loved ones… talk to them… hug them and let them know you love them.
