Last August started out hot also. The high temperature in Indianapolis hit 93 degrees the first two days of the month in 2006.
History is repeating itself. As you know, temperatures are predicted to be 90 degrees or warmer into the weekend.
Our average high to begin the month is 85 degrees. By the end of August the average high is 81 degrees. Low temps move from around 65 degrees to 60 degrees over the next 30 days.
The Climate Prediction Center provides long range forecasts. I’ve included the 90 Day outlook for August, September and October. Here is a link: http://www.cpc.noaa.gov/

This is not my yoke!! It belongs to someone who had the same idea as me though.
Hot enough to fry an egg? Maybe this week. Temperatures will climb into the 90 to 95 degree range. Actually, I’ve tried several times to fry an egg during the summer heat. My results were consistent.
I could not fry one in the heat. I could not fry one in the street.
Not on a sheet of tin. Not anywhere. So, maybe this week I’ll try again!

After dealing with rain over the past few days, we are finally going to see a strech of dry weather. A high pressure system over Minnesota will move across the Midwest over the next few days bringing us sunny skies.
If you’re heading out to the track on Sunday, the gates open at 7am. You can expect partly sunny skies with the temperature around 70 degrees. The race starts at 2pm and temperatures will be in the mid to upper 80s for afternoon highs. The track isn’t the only thing that will be hot!
As many of you know, I’m a huge NASCAR fan! I’ll be cheering on my favorite driver, Jeff Gordon, as I’m watching the race at the station…and preparing graphics too!:)

Sometimes the phone doesn’t ring in our weather office. A light flashes.
During the news, we turn the ringer off so you are not distracted while watching. The ringer is replaced by a flashing light to let us know there is a call. The light tests your peripheral vision.
Anyway, a producer from ESPN was “lighting up” the office today. No, I wasn’t offered a chance to anchor Sports Center. He was seeking weather information for the big weekend.
ESPN will broadcast the race live Sunday afternoon. They always need a plan “B” in case of the weather.
Stick with plan “A”. Although rain has delayed practice today, the green light should shine at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Saturday and Sunday.
A cold front will slip through the state overnight. Early in the day Saturday, rain is still possible south of Indianapolis. All of Central Indiana should be dry on Sunday.

Hopefully you had rain at your house last night. If not, more rain is in the forecast over the next 48 hours.
If you did have rain, I would love to have your report.
