What’s Cooking…

Here is the meteorological menu for the Labor Day weekend:

Sunshine
Light Wind
Low Humidity
Mild Temperatures

Actually, Labor Day temperatures will climb into the upper 80s.

Ribs are on the menu for the 12th edition of Rib America at Military Park downtown. I’m headed there for my evening weather shows. I love to use tongs to hold my microphone while standing by the grill. Food and music combine to make this a great event.
Here is what is on the music menu at Rib Fest:

9 pm Tonight: Pat Benatar
10 pm Saturday Night: KC and the Sunshine Band
9 pm Sunday: Hootie and the Blowfish
6pm Labor Day: Buddy Guy

Have a great Labor Day weekend!!

Let it Shine…

We are in for a sunny stretch of days!

High pressure will take control of our weather. The big blue H is one of two letters you frequently see on the weather map. High pressure usually brings clear skies and light winds.

Our temperatures will remain mild through Monday. Labor Day temps will be in the upper 80s. Those temperatures will be perfect for a last dip in the pool for the summer.

No rain is in the forecast until possibly the middle of next week.

Thanks for reading!

August Heat…

sweat2.jpg

To put it mildly, this month has been hot!

Today marks the 22nd time temperatures have reached 90 degrees or more. In August of 1983 there were 23 days of 90 degree temperatures. Based on the current forecast, we will miss breaking that record.

The most 90 degree days in any month occurred in July 1901. There were 25 days that month at or above 90 degrees.

Milder, less humid weather will arrive for the Labor Day weekend!

Picture This…

If you missed the Lunar Eclipse this morning, here are some great pictures. These pictures were taken by co-worker Steve Russell. As you will see, the moon can appear many colors during an eclipse. The exact color depends on the particles in the earth’s atmoshpere. Depending on the atmosphere, the moon can look red, orange and even yellow.

Lunar Eclipse…

Mars will not appear as big as the moon tonight. I have received several emails asking about that possibility. That email is a hoax.

There will be a total Lunar Eclipse of the Moon! Skies will be clear allowing for a great view.

The partial eclipse of the moon will begin at 4:51am tomorrow morning.

The total eclipse begins at 5:52am.

The partial eclipse ends at 8:24am.
