Each month I receive an astronomy newsletter from Indiana University. Here is a timely selection:
In the spirit of Halloween, Mars will be a bright, pumpkin-colored point of light rising in the east-northeast in late evening, appearing earlier each week. The planet will be very high in the south just before the start of morning twilight.
A Freeze Warning is in effect for the entire viewing area Monday morning from 2am to 9am. A combination of clear skies, light wind, and dry air will cause temperatures to fall to freezing or below. The lowest temperatures will occur in rural areas. These low temperatures will kill plants and vegetation that are sensitive to temperatures around freezing. Widespread frost will also occur. Be prepared to remove frost from windshields of vehicles that have been parked outdoors Monday morning.

Artists often draw raindrops as tear-shaped.
However, raindrops are not tear-shaped.
The shape of the raindrop, according to my meteorology textbook, is determined by the size of the drop.
Small drops are nearly spherical.
Large drops are flat on the bottom and round on top. They look like an open parachute or a falling hamburger bun!

Low pressure is finally on the move through the Midwest.
This low has been cut-off from the main west to east flow over the last several days. So, low pressure has been sitting and spinning to our southwest.
After Friday night showers, the low will quickly move through the state. Other than a lingering shower early in the day Saturday, especially northeast of Indy, the rest of the day should be just cloudy and cool.
Sunshine will be a bigger part of our Sunday!
Have a great weekend.
