December has been a wet, snowy month.
We’ve measured nearly 11″ of snow this month. Recently, rain has been the popular form of precipitation. For the month, we have had 5.37″ of precipitation. That’s roughly 2.50″ above average.
For the year, we’ve had 36.52″ of precipitation. Despite our wet month, we are 4.26″ below average for the year.
After all of this talk about precipitation, enjoy a dry weekend!
The next in a series of storm systems will move through the Midwest Friday.
Low pressure is forecast to track from near Tulsa, Oklahoma to St. Louis and Detroit. Accumulating snow will fall to the northwest of that track. Accumulations of 4″ to 8″ will be possible from northern Missouri, eastern Iowa, northern Illinois into Wisconsin and Michigan.
Most of Indiana will be on the mild side of the storm. Rain should be the dominant precipitation type.

What a day!
With a light wind and bright sunshine, the temperature actually felt warmer than 48 degrees today.
A mixture of rain and snow will quickly move into the state tonight. North of Interstate 70, an inch of snow is possible. Temperatures will be very close to the freezing mark.
After a break tomorrow, rain will return to Indiana Friday. Some light snow accumulations are possible over northern Indiana. If you are traveling, more significant snow will be likely over nothern Missouri, Iowa, extreme northern Illinois and Wisconsin. Four inches of snow or more are possible in those locations.
Milder weather will move into Central Indiana beginning with Christmas Day on Tuesday. Highs will gradually climb to around 40 degrees in the north and into the mid 40s in the south.
Low pressure will push into the area from the west late on Wednesday.
This will bring a chance of a mixture of rain and snow to the area with the best chances for snow across northern parts of the area where it will be cooler.
Chances of precipitation are expected to continue into Thursday.

Now that the winds have calmed down, Santa has been cleared for take-off!
A relatively calm flight through Indiana is expected. Winds will drop to 10 mph or less overnight. That’s a big change from the windy conditions Sunday.
Sunday’s peak wind gust was 55 mph!
