Our wild, wet and stormy month has ended.
Here are some details:
9 Tornadoes: May 30-June 9
Historic Flooding: June 7th
Rainfall:
Indianapolis: 8.00″ for the month.
However, much heavier rainfall occurred south of Interstate 70 in Morgan and Johnson counties:
Martinsville: 22.38″
Paragon: 19.19″
Greenwood: 19.10″
To put those totals in perspective, the monthly rainfall record for Indianpolis is 13.12″ set in 1875.

There is a cold front between us and the weekend. Actually, the cold front will move through Central Indiana during the first half of Saturday.
The cold front will plow into the warm, humid air building thunderstorms. Any thunderstorms that develop will have the potential for heavy rain. You can feel the humidity in the air. That humidity could provide as much as an inch of rain per hour in heavier thunderstorms.
Also, damaging winds and large hail are possible with thunderstorms along the cold front. Cooler, less humid air awaits on the other side of the front. You will feel the difference Sunday into early next week.

Athletes are hoping for blue skies and gold medals at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
There are nearly three dozen events (sports) ranging from Archery to Wresting and Fencing to Trampoline. Not listed, but potentially the toughest of all will be Air Quality.
In an attempt to keep the focus “clearly” on the athletes, there is a plan to deal with air pollution.
The following is a portion of an article from the official Olympics site:
According to the measures agreed upon by Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia and Shandong, the areas to be controlled and managed include dust raising, gas emissions from motor vehicles, and industrial and coal-burning pollution. During the Olympics, some motor vehicles in Beijing will be removed from the roads; construction sites will be asked to stop polluting work processes; and the key enterprises will be requested to limit emissions. Tianjin and parts of Hebei Province will also take emission-cutting measures, Du said.
The full article can be found at the following link. What are your thoughts? Will they be able to control the air quality?

We saw numerous Severe Thunderstorm Warnings throughout the afternoon hours on Saturday and we could see the same type of weather Sunday afternoon. The Storm Prediction Center has Indiana in a slight risk for severe weather on Sunday. Damaging winds and large hail are possible with some of the storms due to daytime heating.
Otherwise…skies will be partly cloudy Sunday with highs in the upper 70s.
Expect more sunshine on Monday with just a slight chance of storms during the afternoon hours. Highs will be in the upper 70s.
Tuesday will be dry with a lot of sunshine and highs in the lower 80s.

Temperatures this week have been wonderful.
High temperatures have been below our average high of 83 degrees. The last three mornings have started with temperatures in the 50s.
There are changes ahead. Currently, the Jet Stream is delivering a northwest flow of Canadian air with low humidity. Forecasts for late next week and early July show a shift in the pattern. Much warmer air is expected to return by the end of June.
Highs may climb to 90 degrees or above. Stay tuned!
