Dry Fact…
Since we have only had two days of measurable rain this month, I thought this would be an interesting fact. There is nothing more exciting than “dry” statistics.
39…most consecutive days without measurable precipitation in Indianapolis. The string of days occurred between August 14th and September 22nd in 1908.
Rain Reversal…
After three very wet months, August has been very dry. We’ve only had measurable rainfall on 2 days this month! Our monthly total is a meager 1.73″.
Here are some details about our rain “reversal”:
MAY: Rainfall on 21 out of 31 days.
June: Rainfall on 18 out of 30 days.
July: Rainfall on 14 out of 31 days.
August: Rainfall on just 2 out of 25 days.
Flooding & Fay…
Tropical Storm Fay is basically sitting and spinning along the east coast of Florida. Rainfall has been torrential in spots. Rainfall amounts of over a foot have been recorded from near Cape Canaveral south into Melbourne. With heavy rain continuing, Melbourne had reported 12.69″ so far. Heavier amounts have been reported just north of Melbourne.
We can relate to heavy rainfall. Many of us will never forget June of this year. Edinburgh measured 10.94″ of rain on Saturday June 7th. Spencer and Greenwood were very close to 10 inches.
The 24 hour rainfall record in Indianapolis is 7.20″ on Labor Day of 2003.
