Snow Totals

Snow Forecast

Here’s my latest thinking on snow accumulations-don’t forget, ice from sleet and freezing rain will also add to the pile late tonight and Friday morning.

Winter Storm Warning

A WINTER STORM WARNING begins at 7 tonight.  Low pressure centered in northern Texas this morning starts the move to around Cincy by 7am Friday.  The weather wild card will be the amount of warmer air in a layer of the atmosphere above the surface.  Our Truecast model has been consistent in painting in quite a bit of sleet and freezing rain mixing in with the snow in the southeastern third of the state.  That will keep the snow totals lower, but travel will be a pain.  I think the heaviest precipitation will come between 10pm tonight and 7am tomorrow.

Standing By For Storms

The soggy stage is set for more thunderstorm chances through Wednesday afternoon and evening.  Heavy rain is the biggest threat from the storms, but of course some would say threat is the wrong word, as a dry spell continues in parts of the state.  Storms soaked much of Indiana Tuesday, but bypassed places like the National Weather Service in Indy, which officially received less than a tenth of an inch.

Storm chances are high Thursday as a cold front Wanders Indiana.  Humidity will still be a factor, but it won’t be as hot.  A streak of nice days begins Friday.

And We’re Back

After two weeks of Summer Vacation, my blogging skills are rusty.  (Translation:  I didn’t even remember yesterday.)

Storms are popping again today, but the best chance will remain in the western third of the state, in area that are closer to an area of upper level low pressure.  A cold front brings a more general chance of Thursday rain, and opens the door to less heat and humidy Friday through the weekend.

Now, if you’ll excuse me–back to cleaning out the e-mail Inbox.  Things do pile up.

UPDATE:  Steady rains did indeed move into central Indiana this afternoon, with some pretty good downpours reported.  Let’s hope more precip is in the pipeline tomorrow and Thursday, and then we can soak up the sun while we’re cutting the newly growing grass this weekend.

Big Numbers

Temperature, dew point, and wind speed numbers are all heading up for the afternoon.  The brisk balmy breezes may take the edge off the humid conditions that will persist through Friday morning.

It’s a case of one front down, one to go.  We are between a warm front and cold front.  The cold front will move through the state during the day Friday, sparking storm chances from morning through late afternoon.  Following that, a dry and pleasant weekend waits.
