Hello Indiana!
My husband, Ian and I have been hoping for quite some time to make Indianapolis our next home. We think it will be a perfect place to raise our two kids - an exciting city without the drawbacks of a HUGE city, and much closer to our hometowns (mine near Chicago, his in Champaign, where I worked for 8 years). Indy is a city where he works often as a musician (rock/jazz drummer and marching snare instructor), and a place we like to visit often. I am looking forward to getting to know greater Indianapolis even better as a new citizen! I may not be a Hoosier by birth, but much of my extended family is from Central Illinois and Indiana - it’s a place I love and appreciate, and I hope we will find it as welcoming as Iowa has been!
I do consider myself a reporter and journalist much more than a “hairsprayed talking head!” I hope that will be obvious to you when you watch in September. I’ve been in the news business about 12 years now, and am up for the challenge of helping WRTV move to the next level and offer high-quality newscasts.
Todd and I welcome all suggestions on places to go that will help initiate us to our new surroundings.
Best wishes and see you on the air soon!
Trisha Shepherd

Welcome to Indianapolis! You said your husband is a musician…but what kind of music do you like? We are thrilled to have you in our city and look forward to seeing you!
Elvis Elvis Elvis! I also have a huge weakness for old Motown tunes, Broadway musicals, anything by the Indigo Girls, James Taylor, U2, Aretha Franklin, or Marvin Gaye - and especially my husband’s current band the Nadas!
I appreciate the welcome, Jamie.

TRISHA! Listen to 107.9 The Track. They play a lot of Motown and disco hits. You’ll get to know and love Ann Duran, Tom Berg, Willie B and J.C. (the D.J.’s) very quickly. Aretha and Marvin rock but we can’t forget about Martha and the Vandellas.
Trisha,
Welcome to the great state of Indiana. I lived there for 28 years, and I moved to Illinois. I saw your photo and thought of you doing the news at channel 3. You were the best. We miss you there, but you are coming to a great station. I grew up watching the news on WRTV Indiana time and then watching channel 3 an hour later. You are coming to a great station. I am so glad you are there. I read the http://www.indychannel.com everyday since we do not get the WRTV in Charleston,Il. Enjoy yourself in the great state. There is so much to do and see there. You made the right choice. I look forward to your news if we can get it on the web.
Have a great week.
Sarah
Thanks, Nick, for the radio recommendation! That kind of music will definitely help put me in a good mood as I drive into work.
Sarah - nice of you to write! My grandad still lives near Charleston, and Ian and I hope to keep visiting all our old friends in Champaign-Urbana often (in fact we’re going there for a wedding this weekend!) It will be nice to be living so close to friends and fam, and in such a great city!
Trisha
Trisha,
As Many before me has said, WELCOME TO INDIANA. Many people say Bloomington is the jewel, but Holiday World is the Diamond, you have got to visit there.
Hope you enjoy Indiana. Also I hope WRTV gets a new set, it needs a little tlc.
Best of luck to you here, Trisha. I hope everything clicks and you’ll happily be anchoring here for many years.
Trisha,
A fresh perspective in news broadcasting is always a nice thing. I’m looking forward to hearing the stories you’ll be reporting and hope they’ll reflect our conservative, mid-west values.
I noticed that Todd has a photo of his family on his blog. Do you think you might share a photo of your family on your blog? See someone’s family makes them seem more friendly and real.
Welcome to America’s 12th largest city, the capital of Indiana and a fine place to live and raise a family!
Sincerely,
Gary Conner
Welcome you are going too be working with a bunch of awesome people. My day starts and ends with 6 News.
Trisha,
Welcome to Indiana! When I saw the commercial on TV I got excited for your arrival as I moved here about a year ago from Ames, Iowa and loved listening to you on WHO! Tell Ian he rocks too - I loved going to Peoples in Ames to hear the Nadas!
Again welcome to Indy!
Welcome to Indiana. Channel 6 is our favorite news channel. Looking forward to your first broadcast. You should visit Fairmount for the James Dean Festival the last week-end in September. Also the Parke County Covered Bridge Festival in October. Two great events.
Welcome to Indy. I’m not sold on the radio station the previous user stated but definitely 105.7 Bernie Egan is a riot. If they are bringing in fresh faces let’s get a new set to go along with it. I’m looking forward to your broadcast of the events going on in my city from you and Todd. Good luck !
Marsha
Welcome!! I always choose WRTV for the news… and I am excited to see you and Todd joining the team!! I think this will be a great thing for the station. Come and check out Plainfield and Avon sometime - lots of great shopping and dining!! Again - welcome and good luck!!
Just wanted you all to know I have been reading all these comments - I appreciate all the suggestions and the nice, welcoming messages!
Gary - I have added a couple family photos to my album. We don’t have many as a group, but a friend took a bunch recently so if we get any nice ones back I will add them.
As you can imagine we are pretty swamped at the Shepherd household dealing with the details of a big move. I will be a much better blogger once things settle down!
Many thanks for taking time to write!
Trisha
Trisha,
Welcome to Indianapolis!
I grew up in Mahomet, Illinois just minutes west of Champaign. I remember watching you all the time. Can’t wait to watch you again.
Welcome to indianapolis and may your time here in our city be fruitfull to you and your family. Another newscast? wow. there is such a glut of news broadcasting on cable, satellite and free tv. most of it is filled with tragic news which never seems to let up. I wish you well, though.
I was reading a your blog on WHO. First, it’s sorta funny that your car got towed, no offense. Secondly i think it shows that your a normal person, and even the media gets up late, and has to pay parking tickets.
Hi Trisha. Tom Berg here from 107.9 The Track. I have to heartily agree with Nick’s comments!
As a former RTV-6′er myself, I wish you and Todd all the best! I got back into radio because the dress code is much more relaxed! hehe
Hi Trisha and family…welcome to the best city in the world, IMO! But I agree with Marsha, check out 105.7…a rockin’ station! I hope you and your family will feel comfy and stay here for many years.
Trisha,
I know you are probably in the midst of boxes — like we are. We wanted to let you know that we are thinking of you and your family during this busy (and potentially stressful) time. We wish you safe travels and look forward to getting together soon.

Yes - things are nuts right now!! This will be moving weekend for us, and everything seems pretty chaotic. It’s good to know we are in the same boat, and Ian and I are thinking of you and Todd (and Kennedy) also! I can’t wait to get a chance to all RELAX together and toast our new hometown once we’re settled in.
Great to hear from so many Champaign-area people! Ian and I are so excited to live so close to our former stomping-grounds once again!
Carl -nice of you to check out my blogs at WHO! Actually, it sounds like you missed this part, but it was one of my colleagues who got his car towed from the Iowa State Fair. Still - I agree it shows a good sense of humor and humility to share that kind of embarassing moment with the public! I’m usually the first to point it out when I get sidelined by one of life’s minor catastrophe’s (like the slightly black and puffy eye I’m sporting today after getting knocked by one of my kids’ toys!)
I promise to check out the radio stations you all are recommending!! If you get a chance, check out my drummer hubby’s Iowa band, http://www.thenadas.com. Next to Elvis, they’re my favorite thing to listen to right now!
See you all very soon and THANK YOU for taking time to write!
Trisha Shepherd
I hope I did not offend any of you who were English majors with that last post. I just noticed I stuck an extra apostrophe in what should have been “catastrophes”. Shame on me. Please forgive any other typo’s - it’s been a long week!
Thanks -
Trish
Hi Trisha!!! It’s Becky…your blog lurker from Des Moines. I was checking out your website here and it looks like this is going to be such an awesome opportunity for you.
I hate to see you leave. I never watched Channel 13 until I got hooked on Today in Iowa.
But…it looks like you will be in good hands here in Indiana.
To the Indianapolis viewers:
You guys are getting a treasure…Trisha is the real deal and a class act. She had a daily blog on the whotv.com website and I always looked forward to hearing about her two adorable kids. She shared her life with us and not in a superficial way…she enjoyed the interaction with her viewers. She is warm and sweet. Good Luck Trisha…and I’m glad you will still be blogging…
Oh, one more thing…someone needs to direct Trisha and her son Calvin to the nearest Spencer store…Calvin has a zombie fixation!!!! If you can’t find him in Indy, let me know..I’ll send Cal a video.
Hello Trisha!
Found any good clothing stores in Indy yet? Love the videos and your new blog. I missed your good-bye this morning. I had Tivo ready to record tomorrow morning. :-\ Hope you have a safe and uneventful move. You are going to be missed greatly!!
To the Indy viewers…you are getting a GREAT anchor. She got us hooked on Channel 13 in Des Moines. She is real, genuine, and a sweetheart. You are lucky! We will miss her.
Good luck with the move. I noticed that The Nadas are taking a tour through California in October — will Ian be with them? I live in L.A. and am an old friend of his from the MIDL and Cavaliers. If he’s coming, I’ll try to surprise him.
Becky and Erica-
Thanks for being such great cheerleaders! You all know how hard it’s been for me to say goodbye to Iowa, and how great this new opportunity in Indy must be for me to leave the great team I worked with at WHO. Ian and I are hopeful that the kids will make a smooth transition, and that Indiana will be as kind to us as Iowa was.
RW - Yes - Ian is planning to join the Nadas for the California tour - with the exception of one weekend when he’s standing up in my baby brother’s wedding! I’m sure he’d love to see an old Cavalier buddy out there - I hope you’re able to make it! Those guys really rock.
That’s it from me for a little while - we’ll be knee-deep in moving nonsense for the next week!
I can’t wait to take a deep breath.
Trish
Trisha,
I was so upset to hear that you were leaving us. You’re my favorite person there at 13. Indy is very lucky to get you. Good luck to you and your family.
To my Dear Friend Trisha! Everyone is right- Indy is very blessed to get you and your many talents. You will be wonderful and I hope you and your family settle quickly and enjoy all the new excitement and challenges to come. Know that we are always here for you in Des Moines too and that we are never more than a phone call or an email away! Love forever, Alissa
To ya’ll in Indy, you’re getting an awesome anchor. I hope you enjoy Trisha as much as we do here in Iowa. She is very talented and funny. Her energy is through the roof. She made an impression to all of us here down in Wayne County/Corydon area when WHO-TV13 came down and did a story on our local celebrity, Brad Hook.
Trisha, I wish you the best of luck and we’re all going to miss ya down here.
Heya Trisha!!!! This is your fellow hipmama from Des Moines!!! Don’t forget us over here ok??? Muah!!!! Love ya always!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Welcome Trisha. My name is Lisa and I live in Mooresville with my family. It is a small town just south of Indy and Plainfield. I have a 3 year old little girl, Chloe and a 5 year old little boy, Sawyer. If you ever want to have a play date and go to the Childrens Museum or anywhere, just let me know. I am 36 and have lived in the area my whole life. There is so much to do here. Your family will love it! The canal downtown is also great for families.
Lisa
Hi Trisha!!
So how’s Indiana treating you? I hope they know how lucky they are and how much you are missed back here in Des Moines. If you ever make it back this way be sure to stop and say “hi!”.
Good Luck and don’t forget to check the board. You may not be a Des Moines West Side Hip Mama any more but you are definately still one Hip Mama.
Danielle.
Hi Trisha!!!
WELCOME TO INDIANAPOLIS!!! I hope that you and your family enjoy your stay in our wonderful city!!!
Some places that I recommend stopping by is Broad Ripple Village (great music, art and shopping scene!!) Mass. Ave (wonderful place for live music and great acts, in the IndyFringe Fest is going to be starting soon. It’s a festival showcasing original Indy Art as well as great music and Indy theatre.
I see that you love Motown music…I would prefer listening to 106.7 WTLC FM. They play old school and even new school R&B music. One minute, you’re hearing Aretha Franklin and next you’re hearing Robin Thicke.
Oh, and Christmas in Indianapolis is really cool. From the Circle of Lights, to Christmas at the Zoo (the Indianapolis Zoo is literally a winter wonderland, to the Yuletide Celebration and even Christmas at the Indiana State Museum, Christmas in Indianapolis is a wonderful for your family!
HAVE FUN AND WELCOME TO INDY
Renee
BTW, if you’re a huge Starbucks fan and you need that jolt, then you’re in luck!! I work at the Starbucks at 15th and Capitol (we’re right behind you guys) and you and Todd are more than welcome to stop by. Just ask for me (or as I’m known to most people, the girl with braces!!)
Trish, we miss you in Iowa. Luck & Love to you and your family.;)
Wow- it’s so nice to hear from so many old friends in Iowa and new soon-to-be neighbors in Indianapolis!!
We are IN TOWN now but up to our eyeballs in boxes. Aside from the torrential downpour on moving day, a crash that shut down the interstate we were traveling, movers who had a 4-hour delay, and kids who caught colds at the WORST possible time, we are hanging in there and trying to get our bearings. I was so proud when I only got lost once today on the way back from Calvin’s new preschool! Our house and neighborhood are amazing - some neighbors stopped by with brownies and made our day!
Hope to see some of you along the RV tour - we’re mapping out our route and should be making it public soon.
I’m REALLY excited to be here, and as much as I already miss our friends in Iowa, we’re dying to get to know people here.
Trisha
Trish,
I am sure his old one misses him
Hope all is well over there. We find out tomorrow who the replacement is for the infamous Trisha
Enjoy.
We miss you here in Iowa! Hope all is well in Indiana. How’s Calvin adapting to school out there? How’s Clara doing? Hopefully Cal has made a new girlfriend by now
Heather.
I’ll make it official, Welcome to Indy ! If you’re going to tour our state thought I’d make a couple suggestions, their out of the way surprises. Like the Conner Prairie Pioneer Settlement, the Speedway Museum, and Holiday World in Santa Claus, IN. The kids should love #1 and #3.
For the Family there’s nothing like Nashville, IN in the Fall and the colors of Brown County State Park will actually take your breath away.
Just a couple of suggestions, hope they suit the family.
Personally, I’m 61 this year and have lived in Indy since I was three.
My wife, Linda (she won’t tell me her age) and I get around the state quite often.
Trisha–
Glad to hear you’re sorta getting settled in. Sorry for the bad luck you experienced b4 you left IA and on your way to Indiana. Just had to say we MISS YOU on Today in Iowa! But glad you’ve made the right decision for your family. Thanks for sharing this link so that your Ch 13 blog lurkers can continue to keep tabs on you, and hopefully continue to watch your two aorable children grow. Sounds like you have already received some welcoming gestures. Hope you get fully settled and I wish you the best of luck on Ch 6 news!
Trisha!!! I am SOOO Happy for you! It’s Daralene from WCIA in Champaign. I just got an e-mail from Chris Coffey in Austin! He told us all you’re in Indy now. I’m so happy for you. This is great. I actually used to intern at WRTV. I’m sure you will do well there. I’m in Orlando now reporting at the ABC station. Good luck up there! Daralene
Trisha -
Hello from your one of your past viewers back in Des Moines! I just wanted to say that I have missed your morning reports, especially your great interaction and laughs with Patrick and Jeriann. I will also miss seeing the great photos of your kids on the blog. I wish you luck on your new adventures in Indy! Julia
Hello from ANOTHER Iowa Trisha fan!! Just wanted to add another positive comment from a former viewer - you all ARE truly getting an awsome anchor! I was very sad to hear she was leaving us here in Iowa, but if it will be a good fit for her and something she couldn’t pass up, then I am soooo happy for her and her family! Trisha, just PROMISE that when you are ever in the DM area you’ve got to stop by WHO and check back in with all of us onset of Today in Iowa. PLEASE!?!?!?
Hi Trisha,
I’m a faithful viewer of the morning show in Des Moines. I missed your last show, so I did not know your were leaving. I had the day off to go to the fair and slept through your show. I went to morning blog to find your farewell comments. Congratulations to you on your new job! You will be missed in Iowa, You have a great new opportunity. Good luck!
Carla B.
good luck trisha we just moved to crawfordsville and love it I love channel 6 news they are great better than what we had in northwest indiana well good luck and god bless
Welcome to Indy!
Even though you’re more than a “hairsprayed talking head!”, I have to say that I absolutely ADORE your hair Trisha! I even called my hairstylist and once you guys are on-air, I hope you don’t mind if I tape ya so I can take it in to the Salon.
My Stylist says if I bring it in so she can see she’s sure she can cut my hair like that. I doubt it will look as good on me but you really have such a cute cut! I hope it’s as easy to style each morning as it looks haha
Well, hope you love it here!
