Hitting the Jackpot
I did a story on the Hoosier Lottery Wednesday night. It reached a record 48 million dollars. Of course, I bought a couple of tickets. And THAT got me thinking about what I would do if I won. I’m sure we’ve all asked that question at one time or another.
I came up with a few qick answers.
First, I’d tithe. I know it’s lottery money but somehow I don’t see a ministry turning down that kind of money.
Second, I’d take care of family members in need. (Naturally, there would be some people CLAIMING to be family. You know how that goes. “I’m your Uncle Joe’s great- grandfather’s second cousin on his step fathers side.”
Hmm. I’d take a cruise… Two weeks with my wife and daughter.. and dog (Heck, I can afford to pay extra for the pooch.)
Got to get some clothes. Not just for my wife either. I love clothes!!
Of course the first answer everyone seems to give is they’d quit there job. Now I would NEVER do that. Forget about it.
But I sure would be on vacation for a long, long, long time. :-) I’m just curious about what you may do with the money. I’d love to hear from you.
Ah, one more thing, just in case the boss is reading this. I didn’t win, so that vacation will just have to wait.

Hi Todd,
I think we all have daydreamed about hitting the big one. Like you, I would take care of relatives in need. I would keep working and just deposit the paychecks in the bank for a rainy day..or year. I also would get some new clothes…I GUESS I would get some for the wife too..ahh, who am I kidding, of course I would. We like to travel, and being able to go anywhere we wanted would be fantastic. It is nice to think about, but also knowing what a rich life I have already (not monetary) is plenty to keep me happy.
Hey Todd. This is one of those questions that I ask myself from time to time whether the lottery is the topic of discussion or not. Believe it or not, I have no desire to live in a huge mansion on the lake with a fleet of expensive cars, expensive clothes, etc. Sure, I’d like a new home…one of moderate size, one new car, and one truck. I’d definitely like to be debt-free. No student loan payments, etc. Bottom line though is that I want to be a blessing to others that have true needs…not frivolous wants, but true needs. The possibilities are too numerous to name, but hopefully, you get the picture.
Stay Blessed,
Eric
yay, i can finally post on here!! lol anyways, what would i do with 48 million? I actually came up with a list on things that i wanna do, so here they are (in no particular order)
tithe more to church
start up a community spot for after school teens and people looking for jobs on the eastside
move into some big house, and leave my cramped
apartment
a new car (a hummer or an escalade)
go on the biggest shopping and chocolate lover spree of my life (paris anyone, qui qui!!)
meeting my dad for the first time, ever
the rest will be on bills and that “fun stuff”
i have to agree with you on keeping my job. i come to contact with wonderful people at my job, who knew coffee and great music can bring people together? every single person that walks in to starbucks (15th and capitol) they forget about the hassles of work, people coming from methodist visiting loved ones who are sick, the unwind the bad things that’s going on and for a moment, they can feel good escaping the bad negative drama out there.
ok, that was my dr. phil moment for tonight.
be blessed!

Hey Todd.
You mentioning that you would tithe part of your lottery winnings reminded me of a story out of Florida a few years ago.
There was a lottery winner there who wanted to donate a portion of his winnings to the Salvation Army, but they wouldn’t accept it because the money came from a form of gambling. It could be an interesting topic for discussion.
Take care!
