We Wish You a Merry Christmas!
I’ll admit it - I’m a sucker for Christmas music.
Tonight I found myself singing along to Winter Wonderland as I drove through the rain. I got a little giggle out of that.
Come on - admit it- you are at the very least a closet fan of cheesy Christmas songs! (unless you’re a Grinch. I’ll deal with you later)
I knew a lot of people feel a little merrier when they hear a familiar holiday tune - so when RTV6 asked if I’d mind providing my voice for their Toy Drive promo on the air, I said, “Sure, no problem!”
I guess it’s sort of risky - people might say news anchors should stick to news, the ad is corny, the singing isn’t their favorite style, or they’re just annoyed with too much holiday cheer. (Grinches. Just flip the channel if it drives you nuts! But come back for the news, okay?)
I even found myself cracking up and cringing when I checked out the “Making of the Video” segment. Is it that interesting to anyone besides my mom? Not quite like the making of “Thriller.” But our promotions team is gung-ho about letting everyone in on the process!
But I was reassured once I saw all the emails that started filling up my inbox. Every day I hear from another bunch of Hoosiers who for whatever reason really got a kick out of the song and video. A few wrote to say they love the fact that we used a “Christmas” instead of “Holiday” song (not intending to jump in on the ”war on Christmas debate” - we simply liked the song for this purpose and weren’t afraid to use it!)
Some wrote to say they like the home video of all the anchors’ families. (It was a miracle we got one happy-looking shot of my two kids that night. It was past bedtime and the little angels were on a tear.)
Most people who wrote just wanted to tell me they enjoyed hearing the singing, and that they wish us at RTV6 a Merry Christmas too.
I’m writing every single one of them back. They took time out of their day to say something nice. We need more of that.
Happy Holidays/Merry Christmas!
Trish

I love hearing Christmas music!!!! Call me crazy, but I hear all year long, even in 90 degree heat!!! I think there should actually be be a radio station that plays Christmas music all year long, because songs like ‘Lip Gloss’, ‘Chicken Noodle Soup’ and ‘Crank Dat Spiderman, etc (the rapper has like 20 different Crank Dat songs)ain’t cutting it.
I really loved the behind the music video/music video. Seeing all the anchors’ families was really great, espcially Todd’s, Dave’s and of course your own.
BTW, I really really liked your performance at Circle of Lights! Are they going to rebroadcast that?
Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!!!
GREAT JOB TRISHA and to the entire crew as well!!
Merry Christmas!
Renee - Christmas music all year round?? Now that IS over the top! I haven’t heard anything about plans to rebroadcast the Circle of Lights stuff - or post it on the web for that matter, but I’ll let you know if that changes.
Erica - Thanks!! Merry Christmas back at ya.
Trisha
Hi Trisha!
When I hear you sing, I imagine that is what an angel would sound like singing. I think it is great that you did that!
Have a Merry Christmas!
Ken -
You are an angel for writing in. Thanks and have a wonderful Christmas!
Trisha
Funny. As I was reviewing your blog, particularly “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”, it appeared on my set. I love your voice. It is so clear and crisp. Do you have a CD of Christmas sons? If not, you seriously should consider one. I would love to have one and I am certain others would enjoy one as well. God bless you and Merry Christmas.
Trisha,
At last, I caught the Toy Drive promo that featured you singing a Christmas carol. You do have a beautiful voice. You should think about making a CD, even if only for local distribution - holiday music or any other type of music that you enjoy.
Merry Christmas to you, your family and colleagues at WRTV6!
Thanks, Ken and Joe.I had never thought about recording a solo CD before, but so many people have suggested it after this Toy Drive promo, that I may look into it for next year.
IF we could figure out how the copyright issues work and make the cost manageable, and IF I could make sure the proceeds benefit a worthy cause, this might be a fun project!
I appreciate your feedback - and wish you a wonderful Christmas!!!
Trish
Bravo. Thanks for your beautiful singing of We wish you a Merry Christmas. In this day and age when the media avoids the word Christmas I find it refreshing to hear you bring it up. We need more media willingness to speak/sing about it and not shun it like so many do. Thanks again.
Welcome to Indy and keep up the good work.
wishing your family a very Merry Christmas ,Please drive carefully. And, please ,please, please, consider the traditional Christmas song CD for next year.
I too enjoyed the promo. You have a lovely voice. I have also heard that Grace Trahan sings. Maybe you could do something together?
So enjoyed your song. I hope we get to hear you more often in the new year!
Nice to hear from you, Don and Randy. I will consider a CD for next year!
Hope you have a great New Year!
